How It All Began

Seefeld—whose first mention in official documents appears in the year 1143—lies on an ancient trading route linking Augsburg and Verona on the plateau between the Karwendel massif and the Hohe Munde.
A destination for pilgrims since the Late Middle Ages, the village of Seefeld evolved during the economic and tourism boom of the 1920s into a popular yet exclusive resort.
In spite of the noteworthy architectural character in the town center, including a typical medieval church precinct and an equally interesting Early Baroque church, the village never developed its own unique architectural style.

In 1929, the Innsbruck hotelier Ferdinand Woldrich commissioned plans for a contemporary hotel in grand style from Siegfried Mazagg. The site for the Berghof project occupied a flat parcel of land, 80 meters by 50 meters, located at the eastern end of the plateau at the foot of the Karwendel.
